Abstract or Additional Information

Following the work of Mirzakhani, we discuss various counting problems associated to hyperbolic structures on a closed surface. We show that, several such problems, such as counting of curves of certain length on a hyperbolic surface, or a lattice counting theorem for Teichmller space equipped with the Thurston metric, are special cases of general statement about geodesic currents.
