An introduction to the Heisenberg group April 5, 2017 - 3:00pm - 3:50pm Undergraduate Mathematics Seminar
The Heisenberg group is simply our familiar 3 dimensional Eucludean space on which a new geometry has been defined. This new geometry changes the meaning of "lines," "distance," and "length." I will talk about these new notions. As an example of this new geometry, I will discuss the structure of geodesic (shortest) curves in the Heisenberg group.
