Graduate students are afforded the opportunity to focus their studies in a chosen area of mathematics and to participate in the exciting enterprise of conducting original research. Because of the breadth of the faculty's interests, it is possible to carry out investigations in many fields of pure and applied mathematics. The diverse areas of active research within the department include the frontiers of core mathematical areas including analysis, algebra, geometry, and topology as well as directions in applied math including mathematical biology and computational neuroscience, scientific computing (computational fluid dynamics, multiphysics problems, and porous media flow), nonlinear dynamics of materials, and mathematical finance (modeling and analysis of problems arising from banking, insurance, and investment).
Browse through the ongoing department research projects and contact the faculty members who specialize in your areas of interest. We want to hear your ideas.
