In this talk we will discuss the evolution and role of analytics (math!) in a modern baseball operations department and its influence on decision making.

Dan Fox just completed his 11th season with the Pirates.  He was hired on May 1, 2008 and is now the club’s Director of Baseball Informatics.  In this role, he and his team are responsible for the architecture, development, and dissemination of information systems and predictive analytics within the Baseball Operations department with the goal of enabling the organization to make the best decisions possible in the realms of player evaluation, acquisition, development, athletic performance and game strategy.

Prior to joining the Pittsburgh organization, Fox worked with Baseball Prospectus and The Hardball Times as an author and weekly columnist. He was also employed as a software architect at Compassion International in Colorado Springs and prior to that as a software instructor, author, and consultant.
