New Faculty

Tom Everest, Lecturer Tom Everest

Tom received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh in 2013, under the advisement of Dr. Chris Lennard.  After a year spent working as an assistant professor at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he is excited to be back in Oakland as a Lecturer.  He looks forward to teaching Pitt’s high-caliber students, and working with the excellent faculty and staff, many of whom he got to know well as a student

Linhong Wang, Lecturer

Dr. Wang was an assistant professor, and then associate professor, at Southeastern Louisiana University (2008-2014), and holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Temple University (2008).  Dr. Wang works in Noncommutative Algebras. Her recent work focus on quantum algebras, Hopf algebras, and representation theory. Dr. Wang has taught a full range of undergraduate courses and supervised a few undergraduate research projects.

Ellen Bao, Lecturer

Dr. Bao began her graduate study at Rutgers University in 2002 and finished in 2008. She then spent 2008 -- 2011 at University of Minnesota as a postdoc before joining the Math Department at University of Pittsburgh as a Visiting Assistant Professor. Dr. Bao's research interests mainly focus on the analysis of Partial Differential Equations, elliptic thoery and applications to inverse conductivity problems. She has a great passion in teaching and was awarded the Teaching Excellence Award (2007) from Rutgers.

Faculty Promotions

Neale Hahn, LecturerNeale Hahn

Prof. Hahn obtained his B.S. and M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh and pursued graduate studies at Pitt and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  He was an instructor for UCEP (the University Challenge for Excellence Program) at Pitt from 1993 to 2003 as well as serving as a part-time instructor in the Math Department from 1989.  He has been director for the MAC since its inception in August of 2003 and a special instructor in the Math Department. His mathematical interests are in Differential Equations and Fluid Dynamics  and Relativity.

Evgueni Trofimov, Lecturer

Dr. Trofimov received master degree in applied mathematics from Tashkent State University. In 2010 he completed graduate program at the University of Pittsburgh under the advisement of Professor Anna Vainchtein and obtained Ph.D. in Mathematics. After graduation he worked one year as a postdoc and joined the Math Department in 2011. He is proud to teach Pitt's students a broad spectrum of undergraduate courses. Dr. Trofimov's research interests lie in the area of mathematical modeling of nonlinear elasticity, advance-delay differential equations, and group theoretic analysis of differential equations.
