The representation theory of sphere packings

This will be an expository talk about the research of various mathematicians working on the problem of bounding the density of packings of convex bodies in containers (such as all of Euclidean space).  When a locally compact group acts by isometries of the container, the representation theory of the group naturally enters the scene.
