Using mathematical software and databases to enhance research

We will explore how you can use software and databases in research, focusing on the open source software package Sage and the online L-functions and Modular Forms database. As a case study, we will consider questions about isogeny classes of abelian varieties over finite fields. I will give some mathematical background on these objects and describe how we can use Sage and a new part of the LMFDB to study them.
